Meade LXD75 Review

The Meade LXD 75 is a high-powered telescope that has improved optical tube construction compared to previous models. They've closed the optical tube assembly which lessens the chance of dust particles getting inside and distorting images. This closed off tube also lessens the air currents which is another way to reduce distortion of an image. The tubes are constructed from steel and are of a very high quality.

The optics are each individually configured which increases the superiority of the optical system. The performance is smooth and focused. This quality optical system will please seasoned astronomers as much as it pleases the untrained eyes. Meade also uses glass that is water white as opposed to soda green. This increases the brightness of celestial images by about 10%. The lens is fully corrective which reduces aberrations and sharpens the images.

Some other points that set this telescope apart from competing models are the f/Ratios and the two-inch focuser. The f/Ratios are fast and correct quickly which make it ideal for those who want to see things quickly and not spend a lot of time focusing in. There is also a wider field of view. These two points make the Meade LX 75 a superior scope for astrophotography. Anyone using this telescope will be capable of taking some really high-quality pictures. The field tri-pod is designed with a locking spreader bar to hold each leg stable. This reduces any vibrations and keeps the entire telescope secure.

The telescope is also made to be smooth and fluid in its movements when passing from one object to another. There is very little backlash in the equatoral mount, and same goes for the drive system. The tracking smoothness is superior thanks to the refined alignment of the motor gears. The viewfinder and refractor are both protected by dew shields which helps eliminate particles that can interfere with a crisp image.

Another feature that can be of great use to novice stargazers is the Meade AutoStar controller. This device will allow a person to quickly find any of the 30,000 pre-programmed celestial structures in space. Stars, constellations, nebulae, moons, and much more are all programmed in the data base. The user must simply input their location, select which star or other celestial structure they want to see, and the telescope will automatically locate and focus on it. The AutoStar is also equipped to take the viewer on a guided tour. One of the most interesting guided tours is called "Tonight's Best." This will take the viewer on a tour of what's happening in the galaxy on that particular night according to their location. This software is update-compatible and can go a long way in teaching newbies some of the basics when it comes to astronomy.

The Meade LX 75 is overall a sturdy telescope that provides a quality experience. It wouldn't matter if it is someone's first telescope or not. The most green astronomers will be able to use it with ease and fuel their desire to explore the galaxy. Even with it's streamlined simplicity, veteran astronomers will not be dissapointed with the quality of this telescope.
